8 Days Straight

- 2 minutes read - 241 wordsIt’s been a few months since we’ve updated our blog. This site was created in memory of our son, Harlan Christopher Squier. He had the mental disease of addiction. He battled for many years, gaining recovery only through Wilderness Programs.
Wilderness programs gave him peace and serenity he could not find in the world. During his recovery, not only did he find his recovery in the wilderness, but he also later worked 8 days on 4 days off in a wilderness program and loved what the wilderness offered. Not only did he find it a resource that was unbeatable for addiction and mental illness, he found being in nature in general benefited all people with any Dis – Ease.
As he grew in life, he moved from working in wilderness programs into helping children who were on the autism spectrum. His growth in life and his recovery is directly linked to his time in wilderness programs. He would tell me, “Mom, the wilderness saved my life, you haven’t lived until you’ve spent 8 days straight, in the woods”.
Chris and I discussed many times opening this foundation and many times about the wilderness program he and John were going to open to benefit others. We hope by offering these partial scholarships, it can save someone else and allow them an opportunity to be part of real life, to be present for as long as they are on earth and forever thereafter.
